What is QRWN

The Queensland Rural Women's Network Inc (QRWN) was formed in 1993 to meet the needs of women in rural communities throughout the state.

Since then it has grown to be a progressive organisation running a series of programs in regional centre's as well as being involved at a national and international level.

The membership of QRWN includes women who are:

  • located in a rural or regional area,

  • involved in a rural business (town based or primary production),

  • involved in a rural community,

  • located in urban or coastal areas, and who have an interest in rural issues,

  • interested in promoting strong links between the rural and urban sectors.

QRWN aims to provide opportunities for the self-development of rural women.

We are a lobby group. We are an action group. We initiate projects at the local, region and state level, that contribute to the social and economic wellbeing of rural Queensland.

 

Vision

To bring together women to

  • Support rural families, communities and enterprises,

  • To initiate projects around telecommunications, industry health and services in the rural sector

We network. We lobby. We act.

 

Mission

QRWN's mission is to help Queensland women to contribute more effectively to their communities and industries by building  statewide networks of information, friends, resources and action.

 

Aims

  • initiate actions that make practical differences to rural people's lives and livelihoods

  • provide stimulating forums for discussion and debate

  • provide support systems through the statewide network

  • build networks with other groups throughout Australia and the world

  • improve country-city relationships

  • encourage provision of services by government agencies and private organisation's

  • promote awareness of rural women's contributions to the social and economic bottomline

  • celebrate women's social and economic achievements

  • promote the value of diverse rural industries and communities

  • encourage personal development and education in rural communities and enterprises

 

Structure
 
QRWN extends over seven regions under the management of Regional Directors - Northern, Western, Central, Wide Bay Burnett, South East, Border and Metropolitan.

The Management Committee, comprising of the QRWN Executive and the Regional Directors, meets quarterly and members communicate regularly by email.

The local branches meet monthly.
