26th August 2009: The QRWN's 2009 State Conference is now just a little over
three weeks away - and excitement about it is definitely starting to build! But one area where we still need
more member input are our
Cultural Competitions.
It seems that some members -
maybe you? - think that they're
not good enough to compete in these events because of the high standards that have been achieved in previous years. Our answer?
Rubbish! The QRWN's Cultural Competitions are open to
every member. Your work will be seen by an audience of friends, not critics. And over the years we've been
astonished at just how much talent we have in our ranks (much of it formerly unrecognised). But it's
not whether you win or lose that really matters. What really matters is
having a go and being part of it!
Our President learned this lesson back when she was a young girl. She was competing in a contest where she started out thinking she was
absolutely hopeless but - to her great surprise - came out on top in the end
against all odds. It taught her a very valuable life lesson. So if you think you're not up to scratch for this year's Culutural Competition, it might do the same for you too.
