How Will The Competition Be Run?

The wearable art competition will be held at each town in conjunction with South Burnett’s local shows.  Students will submit and model their entries at their local shows.  Entry forms will be sent to all local schools in early December.

There will be two divisions:  Years 8-10     (Junior)

                                     :   Years 11-12   (Senior)

This competition will also encourage the involvement, support and participation of young people with their local show societies, which will also flow on into the community.  We feel teachers who become involved with the competition, will also have closer ties with their students and the community.

What Materials Can I Use In My Creation?

Being the Queensland Rural Women’s Network we feel that it is important that we promote our rural areas.  To showcase our rural communities we want materials used in creations to be recycled materials found on a farm or within a rural community.  For any student who does not have access to a farm, QRWN members can supply farm waste products to assist.

What is the Judging Criteria?

Entries will be judged prior to the parade, as well as being judged on the “catwalk”.  Judging will take into account:

Creative ideas that use recyclable and sustainable materials.  Items from a farm workshop may also be used.  For example, students can use nuts, bolts, washers, wire, chain etc.

      Workmanship

      Imaginative ideas

      Wearability, colour and design

      Visual impact

What do I use to assemble my outfit?

Hand or machine sewing can be used, plus tape, velcro or glue.

Sequins, glitter, paint, or feathers may also be used to enhance the outfit.

What Happens If I Win?

The winning entry and runner up for the senior and junior division will go on to the regional finals to be held in Murgon in October 2008.  QRWN will be donating the prize money for the heats and also for the winners and runner-ups.

How much is the prize money?

Each local show heat will have prize money awarded.  First prize $20, second prize   $10, and third prize $5.00.

Prize money for the grand finals for both divisions is $150 for first, and $75 for second prize.

When are the finals?

The finals of the Rural Wearable Art will be held in Murgon in October (date to yet be decided) as a Gala Night, which will be well advertised, and be made a very important event to support our young designers in sustainable and recyclable rural products.
